While the Kansas City Chiefs are looking for a new defensive coordinator, they are not ready to completely scrap their suspect defense.

One day after the resignation of defensive coordinator Greg Robinson, the Chiefs signed strong safety Greg Wesley and left tackle John Browning, two of their best defensive players, to long-term contracts.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed, but ESPN reported that Wesley signed a six-year contract worth $20 million and Browning agreed to a five-year pact worth $12.3 million.

Robinson payed the price for Sunday's 38-31 divisional playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts in which the Chiefs did not force a single punt.

But Wesley, 25, produced arguably the best season of his four-year career, recording a career-high 102 tackles while starting every game. For the second straight season, he recorded six interceptions. Tickets

A third-round pick in the 2000 draft, Wesley has started 61 games, registering 284 tackles, 16 interceptions and six sacks.

Browning, 30, also started all 16 games for the Chiefs and registered 55 tackles. A third-round draft choice in 1996, Browning has started 76 of 89 games.

Kansas City started 9-0 but went just 4-3 down the stretch before Sunday's playoff defeat.
